Roanna Wells uses ariel photographs of large gatherings as a starting point. She only uses people for inspiration. The events she chooses have political or social importance such as election protests and religious gatherings. These events have a potential when people are brought together. Roanna sees another potential in the crowds which lies in the pattern of the people on the ground and the spaces in between. Her work uses mark making and embroidery to show detailed aspects of imagery and pattern.
Roanna wells describes herself as a fine artist that uses graphical stitch. She gets inspiration from the geographical context and current topical relevance of the image but also the composition of the patterns. She creates her work by making small stitches to make the patterns in the photos. I could use this technique in my work to add extra detail.
